Sustainability Specialists help organizations use energy, water, and materials more wisely so they can save money and reduce pollution. They collect and analyze data on things like electricity use, trash and recycling, and building performance, then recommend strategies such as green building designs, low-waste operations, and eco-friendly purchasing policies. They also write reports, funding proposals, and presentations to convince leaders, coworkers, and the public to support and invest in practical, science-based sustainability projects.

- Collect information about waste stream management or green building practices to inform decision makers.
- Develop sustainability project goals, objectives, initiatives, or strategies in collaboration with other sustainability professionals.
- Identify or procure needed resources to implement sustainability programs or projects.
